I haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't comment on Mr. Moore's documentary style. I will just make a few general comments. People are paranoid about the term "socialist" healthcare and politicians are always pointing to "lack of choice"...my sister pays a hefty premium in California and has had various health issues in which she was extremely limited in how she could be treated.

Additionally, politicians point to higher taxes when govenment gets involved. Call it what you want, I already pay over 25% of my salary in healthcare insurance. I am 40 years old...imagine when I am 50 or 60!

I'll take higher taxes for a bit of peace of mind.

I do also agree that Americans need a little education in "good health"...and government needs to do a better job controlling tobacco, corn syrup, trans fat, etc etc...but that takes a long time because there is big money involved...just like the healthcare system.

Rob: I am truely sorry to here that in California (one of the best systems in the United States) your sister is having so many problems. You are quite correct that the cost of insurance will increase as we all age. As I have limited personal experience with nationalized healthcare I cannot tell you that the situation would be better, worse or the same. On the other hand, I have numberous Emergency Room patients each month in Florida who find themselves unable to get authorization for care from their Canadian insurance and must be transported home. When they get to Canada (by air ambulance) itis not unusual for them to end up in an Emergency Room bed due to the same hospital overcrowding we have here. In short, the system is broken everywhere. The best answer is to promote health (a great opportunity for a National HEALTH system) and pair it with some form of disease treatment system for those who get sick despite our best efforts. This is better because right now, little effort is made to promote health, the whole system is designed to respond to disease.

Air Ambulance

Repatriation is at the core of what RMSI does. They are a premium medical charter flight operator and work for United Nations and other great organizations. They offer remote medical services in isolated areas and areas of conflict where reliable and skilled doctors are needed and where the whole infrastructure with air evacuation is extremely important and necessary.
